When you encounter a location that doesn’t exist in Forerunner, you can create a new property directly from the mobile app. Properties created on mobile sync to the web platform, making them available to your entire team.

When to create a property

Create a new property when:
  • You’re at a location that needs to be tracked in Forerunner
  • No existing property marker appears at the location on the map
  • A parcel exists but has no associated property
Before creating a new property, search the map and nearby area to confirm the property doesn’t already exist. Duplicate properties can cause data management issues.

Create a property from the map

1

Navigate to the location

Pan and zoom the map to where the property should be located.
2

Tap on the location

Tap on the map at the property’s location. If a parcel exists there, the parcel info panel opens.
3

Select Create property

From the context menu or parcel panel, tap Create property.
4

Enter the address

Type the property’s street address. The app may suggest standardized addresses as you type.
5

Verify coordinates

The coordinates auto-fill based on where you tapped. Review them and adjust if needed.
6

Complete additional fields

Fill in any other required property information configured by your community.
7

Save the property

Tap Save to create the property.

Create a property from a parcel

If a parcel exists but has no property:
1

Tap the parcel

Tap on the parcel boundary on the map.
2

Review parcel information

The parcel info panel shows parcel details like parcel ID and boundaries.
3

Tap Create property

Select Create property to start creating a property associated with this parcel.
4

Complete the form

The parcel association is automatic. Fill in the address and other required fields.
5

Save

Tap Save to create the property linked to the parcel.
Creating a property from a parcel automatically associates them, which helps with data accuracy and lookup.

Use your GPS location

Your device’s GPS can help place properties accurately:
1

Stand at the property

Physically position yourself at or near the property location.
2

Center the map on yourself

Tap the location button to center the map on your current position.
3

Create from your location

Tap on your location marker or nearby, then select Create property.
4

Verify the placement

Check that the property marker appears in the correct spot. Adjust manually if GPS accuracy is off.
GPS accuracy varies based on conditions. In areas with poor satellite visibility (dense tree cover, between tall buildings, indoors), coordinates may be less accurate. Always verify the location visually on the map before saving.

Property fields

When creating a property, you’ll typically fill in:
FieldDescription
AddressThe property’s street address. May be standardized automatically.
CoordinatesLatitude and longitude. Auto-filled from the map but can be edited.
ParcelThe associated parcel, if any. Auto-filled when creating from a parcel.
Additional fieldsOther fields configured by your community (varies by account).

Create properties offline

You can create properties without an internet connection:
  • Tap the map and select Create property as usual
  • Fill in all required fields
  • Tap Save to store the property locally
The property saves to your device with a “Pending” status indicator. When you reconnect:
  1. The property automatically syncs to the server
  2. It receives a permanent ID
  3. It becomes visible to other users on web and mobile
  4. Any records you created for the property also sync
Properties created offline use a temporary ID until synced. The permanent ID is assigned by the server during sync.

After creating a property

Once a property is created, you can immediately:
  • Add records - Create inspections, permits, or other record types
  • Create tasks - Assign follow-up work for yourself or team members
  • View on map - See the property marker at its location
  • Edit details - Update the address or other information
The property info panel opens after creation, giving you quick access to all these actions.

Verify property placement

After creating a property, verify it’s in the correct location:
1

Look at the map

Check that the property marker appears where expected relative to parcels and other properties.
2

Compare to reference

If available, compare to aerial imagery or known landmarks.
3

Edit if needed

If the placement is wrong, open the property and edit its coordinates.

Best practices

Search before creating - Always search for the address first to avoid creating duplicates. Use parcels when available - Creating from a parcel ensures proper association and helps with data accuracy. Verify GPS placement - Don’t rely solely on GPS. Visually confirm the location on the map. Complete all fields - Fill in as much information as you can while at the property. Create records immediately - If you came to the property to document something, create the record before leaving. Sync when possible - When you have connectivity, let new properties sync. This makes them visible to colleagues and creates a backup.

Troubleshooting

Why this happens: The option may appear in different places depending on what you tapped.Solutions:
  • If you tapped empty space on the map, look for a context menu
  • If you tapped a parcel, look in the parcel info panel
  • Try tapping directly on the location where you want to create the property
  • Ensure you have permission to create properties in your account
Why this happens: Address standardization depends on reference data availability.Solutions:
  • Type the address as it appears on the property
  • If the suggested address is wrong, you can override it
  • For rural or unusual addresses, manual entry may be required
  • When offline, address standardization may not be available
Why this happens: GPS accuracy depends on satellite visibility and device quality.Solutions:
  • Move to an open area with clear sky view
  • Wait a moment for GPS to acquire a better fix
  • Manually tap the correct location on the map
  • Use known reference points (parcel boundaries, roads) to verify
  • Edit the coordinates after creation if needed
Why this happens: Sync requires an internet connection.Solutions:
  • Verify you have a stable connection (check the connectivity indicator)
  • Pull down to refresh and trigger manual sync
  • Check for error indicators on the property
  • If sync continues to fail, the app backs up your data. Contact support for help.
Why this happens: The property may have been hard to find or was created recently by someone else.Solutions:
  • If caught immediately, you may be able to delete the duplicate
  • Contact your administrator to merge or remove duplicate properties
  • In the future, search thoroughly and zoom in before creating
