Webinar Recap: Building Resilience - Effective Floodplain Management Strategies in Cedar Rapids, Iowa

November 15, 2023
Susanna Pho, CFM

Building resilience in flood-prone areas involves implementing comprehensive flood mitigation strategies and fostering community preparedness to minimize the impact of storms. Many local governments are pushing forward new initiatives and stricter regulatory standards, and many communities that we work with are making significant progress. We were thrilled to host a webinar featuring one of those communities, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Mathew Langley, CFM, Floodplain Administrator in Cedar Rapids, joined us for a discussion on their floodplain management strategies for resilience. He shared insights into their dynamic and holistic approach, which includes map updates, cross-department coordination, data consolidation, higher regulatory standards, the CRS program, and public outreach strategies. He also shared how certain tools, including Forerunner, play a pivotal role in supporting this work.

The presentation is available here and the recording is below.
