Flood insurance rates are rising nationwide, prompting floodplain management teams to prioritize reducing costs for residents while also encouraging more people to obtain coverage. According to a recent survey by Forerunner, 48% of floodplain managers report that rising insurance costs have driven their community’s investment in floodplain management efforts, and 24% said that minimizing the cost of flood insurance was their #1 priority over the next 5 years.
One of the most effective ways communities can address this challenge is by participating in the National Flood Insurance Program’s Community Rating System (CRS). Improved community ratings can unlock significant insurance savings for residents. However, achieving this requires data that is well-organized, easily accessible, and actionable.
Despite its importance, managing documentation and data remains a significant hurdle. The survey found that 30% of floodplain managers identify maintaining documentation and data as a major challenge, and 20% report difficulties managing CRS documentation specifically.
Moreover, while 74% of floodplain managers agree that data plays a critical role in shaping floodplain management strategies, 73% find it difficult to compile, analyze, and apply the data effectively to their work.
Forerunner’s floodplain management software is designed to address these challenges. By automating, digitizing, and streamlining floodplain regulation tasks, Forerunner makes CRS participation more manageable, enabling communities to confidently meet compliance requirements and focus on mitigating flood risk.
