Maximizing Efficiency in Floodplain Management: How Communities Are Saving Time and Resources with Forerunner

Most professionals working in government roles understand the importance of using their often limited resources in strategic and efficient ways, but it’s not always easy.

Increasingly, floodplain management teams in particular are facing growing demands, often with limited resources to match. A recent survey conducted by Forerunner found that 57% of floodplain managers say they face a lack of funding and resources, and 45% say they lack sufficient staffing and training.

In today’s environment, where floodplain management work is becoming all the more vital to communities’ long-term resilience but more difficult to execute, many are integrating tech-first solutions like Forerunner to help ease the challenges they’re facing and exponentially improve their workflows - and it’s paying off.

For Angela Lolley, Floodplain Administrator for Franklin County, Florida, Forerunner has helped to close gaps and improve efficiency and productivity, enabling them to better serve their community of 12,000+ residents.

“The more work we put into implementation, the more we see areas where Forerunner will improve our efficiency and productivity,” said Lolley. “Forerunner is the missing link in the permitting process. The Forerunner team is trained in floodplain management and also understands the permitting process.”

Forerunner’s partner communities report that our technology saves them as much as 12-16 hours per week on administrative or compliance workflows and tasks, and in some communities, has improved their team’s efficiency on administrative or compliance tasks by more than 75%.

For Jacquelyn Anderson, Certified Floodplain Manager in Palm Beach County, Florida, Forerunner has served as an important resource in ensuring the quality of her team’s work.

“Forerunner error detection is very helpful in identifying errors that we may not have caught,” said Anderson. “The capabilities of the system are continually increasing.”

Forerunner works closely with our partner communities to understand their unique needs and challenges, and we continuously adapt and enhance our platform with new features - including the recently launched Substantial Damage Estimator and Location Sharing feature - that add incremental value and utility for users.

“Forerunner’s team listens to customer feedback and program capabilities are continually expanding as their team discovers new ways to incorporate new information and streamline processes,” said Lolley.

For many of our partner communities, implementing Forerunner’s technology has completely changed the way they work for the better - and helped to save money along the way.

As Ed Striedl, Construction Code Enforcement and Zoning Officer for Keansburg, NJ, puts it, “You are making one of the BEST decisions in records management and cost savings along with customer service for the residents of your community.”
