# Overview
> Access Forerunner in the field with the mobile app
The Forerunner mobile app brings your floodplain management tools into the field. Available for iOS and Android, the app lets you create and edit properties, submit records, manage tasks, and access maps—even without an internet connection.

## What you can do on mobile
The mobile app supports the core workflows you need in the field:

| **Properties** | Create new properties from your current location or by searching an address. Edit existing property details and view property information. |
| **Records** | Submit records using dynamic forms with field checks. Capture photos and attach documents directly from your device. Use the AI Assistant with chat, record audio and transcribe, photos, or Live Mode to fill out fields faster. |
| **Tasks** | View assigned tasks, create new tasks, and mark tasks complete. Track your work even when offline. |
| **Maps** | View properties, parcels, FIRM data, and custom map layers. Download offline map packs for areas without connectivity. |
| **Files** | Upload photos, PDFs, and documents. Capture images with your camera, or record or select videos from your device library. |
## How the mobile app works
The mobile app connects to your Forerunner account and syncs data between your device and the web platform:
1. **Sign in** - Use your existing Forerunner credentials to access your account
2. **Download offline data** - Prepare for field work by downloading offline map packs for your area
3. **Work in the field** - Create properties, submit records, and complete tasks whether online or offline
4. **Sync your work** - Data automatically syncs to Forerunner when you have connectivity
## Mobile vs. web
The mobile app focuses on field data collection, while the web platform provides full administrative capabilities:
**Best for mobile:**
* Property inspections and site visits
* Field data collection and form submission
* Photo and video documentation
* Task completion in the field
* Map-based navigation and property lookup
**Web platform only:**
* User and account administration
* Report generation and bulk exports
* Workflow configuration
* Custom record type setup
* API integrations
Your work syncs seamlessly between mobile and web. Records created on mobile appear immediately in the web platform once synced, and vice versa.

### Offline support
The mobile app is designed for field work where connectivity is unreliable. Download offline map packs before heading out, then create properties, submit records, and complete tasks without an internet connection. Your data syncs automatically when you're back online.

### Location services
The app uses your device's GPS to:
* Show your current location on the map
* Suggest coordinates when creating properties
* Share your location with team members for coordination and safety
* Help you navigate to properties

### Live Mode
Live Mode is a real-time session with the AI Assistant: you talk and show your camera, and the AI Assistant responds by voice and updates the form as you speak. No typing required—ideal for inspections, code enforcement, and site visits.

### Secure authentication
The mobile app supports:
* Biometric authentication (Face ID, Touch ID, fingerprint)
* Device PIN fallback
* Two-factor authentication
* Automatic session timeout after inactivity
### Real-time sync
When connected, the app automatically syncs:
* New properties you create
* Records you submit
* Task updates and completions
* Files and photos you upload
## Getting started
Ready to use Forerunner on mobile?
1. Download the app from the [App Store](https://apps.apple.com) (iOS) or [Google Play](https://play.google.com) (Android)
2. Sign in with your Forerunner credentials
3. Enable location permissions when prompted
4. Download an offline pack for your work area
5. Start collecting data in the field
Download offline map packs while connected to Wi-Fi. Packs can be large depending on your area size, and downloading over cellular may use significant data.
## Platform requirements
