# AI Assistant on mobile

> Fill out records on mobile with chat, voice, photos, or your camera

The AI Assistant on mobile helps you fill out records faster in the field. Open it from any record with the AI Assistant button (the sparkle icon).

Ways to use it:

* **Chat** to ask questions about the record
* **Record audio and transcribe** to dictate your observations
* **Photos** to fill out fields from what's in the picture
* **[Talk & show camera](/docs/mobile/talk-and-show-camera)** to talk back and forth while the AI Assistant sees your camera
* **[Talk to fill out record](/docs/mobile/talk-to-fill-out-record)** to describe what you see and have the AI Assistant fill out the record

  On the web app, use **Ask Forerunner** instead. It fills out the record you have open and answers questions about your whole account. See [Global AI Assistant](/docs/ai/global-ai-assistant).

## Record audio and transcribe

Record your observations and the app transcribes them; the AI Assistant then fills out form fields based on what you said:

  <Step title="Tap the AI Assistant">
    Open the AI Assistant from within the record.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Tap the microphone icon">
    Select the microphone to begin speech input.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Speak your observations">
    Describe what you're documenting. For example: "Two-story wood frame structure. Visible water line approximately three feet above ground level. HVAC system located in basement appears damaged. Estimated damage around forty percent of structure value."

  <Step title="Review the changes">
    The AI Assistant converts your speech to text and fills in the fields for you. Tap **View changes** to check them, or **Undo** to roll them back.

  Recording audio requires microphone permissions. The first time you use this feature, your device will prompt you to grant access.

## Uploading photos on mobile

Capture photos in the field and use them to help fill out record fields:

    Take a new photo with your camera or select an existing photo from your device.

    Optionally describe what the photo shows using speech or text input.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Review the changes">
    The AI Assistant fills in the fields for you. Tap **View changes** to check them, or **Undo** to roll them back.

## Tips for field use

**Speak clearly**: Background noise can affect speech recognition. Move to a quieter area if possible, or use text input instead.

**Be specific**: Include specific values, measurements, and observations in your descriptions. "Approximately three feet of water damage" is more useful than "some water damage."

**Review before submitting**: Always review the AI Assistant's suggestions before accepting. You're responsible for the accuracy of the final record.

**Combine methods**: Use speech for quick observations, photos for visual documentation, and text for precise values. The AI Assistant works with all input types.
