# Files

> Upload, retrieve, and manage documents

The Files API enables you to programmatically manage documents in Forerunner,
including Elevation Certificates, permits, maps, and other files. Files can be
associated with properties using addresses, parcel IDs, or coordinates.

## Supported file types

Forerunner accepts various file types for different purposes, and which types are available to your specific account depends on how the account is set up. Contact your Customer Success Manager for more information.

Size limits are per media type, and Submit File lists the current limit for each one.

<Info>
  To receive a notification when an Elevation Certificate you uploaded finishes
  processing, configure a [webhook](/docs/developers/v1/webhooks).
</Info>

## Matching a file to a property

Send as much location information as you have — address, parcel ID, and coordinates together. They are used in combination, and match far more reliably than any one alone. Elevation Certificates are the exception: Forerunner reads the location out of the certificate, so you do not supply one.

See the [Files endpoints](/docs/developers/v1/reference/files/list-files) for parameters, response shapes, and a request you can send from the page.
