# Managing repetitive loss data
> Track and manage FEMA repetitive loss properties for CRS compliance
Repetitive Loss (RL) data in Forerunner helps communities participating in the Community Rating System (CRS) track properties with multiple flood insurance claims. This data comes from FEMA's National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and is essential for CRS documentation and community resilience planning.
## What is repetitive loss?
A repetitive loss property is one that has experienced multiple flood insurance claims under the NFIP. FEMA tracks these properties and provides data to communities to help identify high-risk areas and prioritize mitigation efforts.
### FEMA definitions
| Term | Definition |

| **Repetitive Loss (RL)** | A property with 2 or more flood insurance claims of \$1,000+ within any 10-year period |

* Properties are matched to your parcel data
* Unmatched records may require manual review

### Data updates

## Common workflows
### Annual RL list update
When you receive updated RL data from FEMA:
Obtain the updated RL list from FEMA or your state coordinator.
Email the FEMA data file to [rep-loss@withforerunner.com](mailto:rep-loss@withforerunner.com). Include the password for the dataset. Do not CC anyone else on this email.
Forerunner's data team reviews the import and provides a summary of new, updated, and unmatched records.
Work with your CSM to resolve any unmatched properties or data questions.

### Tracking a mitigation project
When an RL property is mitigated:
Create or update records documenting the mitigation project completion.
Mark the property as mitigated in the appropriate field.
Attach completion certificates, photos, or other documentation.
Note the mitigation in the RL tracking information.
### RL owner outreach
Document outreach to repetitive loss property owners:
* Create records for each outreach activity
* Link records to the property
* Track response and follow-up
* Document CRS outreach requirements
## Data issues and resolution
### Common issues
If an RL record doesn't match a property in your database:
* Address format may differ
* Property may have been subdivided or combined
* Parcel data may need updating

If RL data appears outdated:
* Check when data was last imported
* Request updated data from FEMA
