# Managing repetitive loss data

> Track and manage FEMA repetitive loss properties for CRS compliance

Repetitive Loss (RL) data in Forerunner helps communities participating in the Community Rating System (CRS) track properties with multiple flood insurance claims. This data comes from FEMA's National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and is essential for CRS documentation and community resilience planning.

## What is repetitive loss?

A repetitive loss property is one that has experienced multiple flood insurance claims under the NFIP. FEMA tracks these properties and provides data to communities to help identify high-risk areas and prioritize mitigation efforts.

### FEMA definitions

| Term                             | Definition                                                                                     |
| -------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Repetitive Loss (RL)** | A property with 2 or more flood insurance claims of \$1,000+ within any 10-year period |
| **Severe Repetitive Loss (SRL)** | A property with 4+ claims of \$5,000+ each, or 2+ claims totaling more than the property value |
| **Mitigated** | A property where mitigation actions have been completed to reduce flood risk |

## Why repetitive loss matters

### CRS credit

The Community Rating System awards credit for:

* Maintaining an accurate repetitive loss list
* Tracking and documenting RL properties
* Conducting outreach to RL property owners
* Implementing mitigation projects

### Risk identification

RL data helps communities:

* Identify areas with chronic flooding
* Prioritize mitigation funding
* Target outreach efforts
* Document flood history for planning

### Compliance requirements

CRS participating communities must:

* Maintain current RL data
* Update the list when properties are mitigated
* Document outreach activities
* Report during CRS verification visits

## Repetitive loss data in Forerunner

Forerunner integrates repetitive loss data with your property records, making it easier to track, manage, and document RL properties.

### What's included

RL records in Forerunner may include:

## Managing repetitive loss data

### Data imports

RL data is imported into Forerunner by authorized employees:

* FEMA provides updated RL lists to communities
* Send the data file to [rep-loss@withforerunner.com](mailto:rep-loss@withforerunner.com) — do not CC anyone else, as RL data contains protected information
* Properties are matched to your parcel data
* Unmatched records may require manual review

<Warning>
  RL data contains protected information. When sending your FEMA data file, only email it to [rep-loss@withforerunner.com](mailto:rep-loss@withforerunner.com). Do not CC anyone else on the email.
</Warning>

### Data updates

RL records may need updates when:

* FEMA provides new data
* Properties are mitigated
* Claim information changes
* Properties are demolished or combined
* Address corrections are needed

### Mitigation tracking

Track mitigation status for RL properties:

* Mark properties as mitigated when projects complete
* Document mitigation activities in records
* Link to grant or project records
* Update status for CRS reporting

## Working with RL data

### Viewing RL information

Depending on your configuration, you can view RL data through:

**Property pages**

* RL status fields on property details
* Linked RL records showing claim history
* Related files and documentation

**Table views**

* Filter tables to show RL properties
* Sort by claim count or payment totals
* Export RL lists for reporting

**Maps**

* RL properties displayed with distinct styling
* Geographic clustering visible
* Filter map to show only RL properties

### Reporting and exports

Export RL data for CRS documentation:

* Generate RL property lists
* Include claim history and mitigation status
* Filter by geography or status
* Format for CRS verification

<Tip>
  Create a saved table view for RL properties to quickly access this data during CRS visits or for regular reporting.
</Tip>

## Privacy and access

Repetitive loss data contains sensitive information and has restricted access:

### Access controls

* RL data access requires specific permissions
* Not all user roles can view RL information
* Public users cannot access RL data
* Protected information within RL records is restricted

### What's restricted

| Information               | Access                    |
| ------------------------- | ------------------------- |
| **RL property locations** | Authorized internal users |
| **Claim amounts**         | Authorized employees      |
| **Owner information**     | Authorized employees      |
| **Mitigation status** | Authorized internal users |

<Warning>
  RL data includes personally identifiable information about property owners and their insurance claims. Only access this data when necessary for your work, and never share it publicly.
</Warning>
